Protests erupt outside Kasba Police station as 3 arrested in alleged Kolkata college gang rape
In a tragic incident from Andhra Pradesh's Nandyal district, a middle-aged couple allegedly died by suicide after their 24-year-old son revealed his decision to marry a transgender partner. The couple, identified as 45-year-old Subba Rayudu and 38-year-old Saraswati, took the extreme step following prolonged conflicts over their son's association with the local transgender community.
According to Nandyal sub-divisional officer P Srinivas Reddy, the couple had been upset for years about their son Sunil Kumar's three-year-long relationship with a transgender individual. Kumar had firmly refused to marry a woman and insisted on living with his partner, leading to frequent arguments within the family.
Officials revealed that Kumar had previously attempted suicide over his family's refusal to accept his relationship. Matters escalated when it was discovered that he had spent ₹1.5 lakh on members of the transgender community. This prompted community members to demand repayment from his parents, subjecting them to public humiliation and insults.
The constant stress and social pressure took a toll on the couple, who ultimately decided to end their lives. Police officials confirmed that the investigation into the incident is ongoing to uncover more details.
A similar case surfaced in Rajasthan last year, where a couple died by suicide after their daughter entered into an inter-caste marriage. The couple left behind a suicide note expressing their distress over the situation and urging authorities not to harass their son.
Both incidents highlight the social pressures faced by families dealing with unconventional relationships, underlining the need for greater acceptance and open dialogue to prevent such tragedies.
